Maggie Moo

The newest addition to our family was brought on board this week. Well, technically a while ago but I haven't posted since then. Maggie is a 6 year old Golden Retriever who is just sweet as can be. We were lucky enough to adopt her from Lollypop Farm. I went there on my lunch break and of course there was a wait. A woman had signed up to see her before me so it was a little scary at first. I wasn't really all that keen about having an 80 lb. dog gallavanting around the house. White berber carpet is extremely difficult to keep clean with a dog going in and out all the time. I was supposed to be back at work within an hour and that certainly did not happen. Waiting for what seemed like eternity was only an hour and a half, but still. I saw her in a pen and knew right there all I needed was boy's approval. I put a deposit on her and came back to work with the news. Boy usually only works for part of the day on Wednesdays, so he left and went to see her. That is all it took, she was on her way home that night at 5. She loves the car, she gets along with the cats, she walks well on the leash and she is a delight to be around. I never realized how much I missed having a dog.

out with the chimp..
NYC was dangerously fun. I was trashed out of my mind on Sunday evening. I don't even remember half of the stuff that we did that night. All I know is that it was a blast. I just wish I could live there.I was browsing CNN today, so I have to give them credit for this quote: "Marriage between one man and one woman does a better job protecting children better than any other institution humankind has devised," said Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tennessee. "As such, marriage as an institution should be protected, not redefined."
It's funny to me that in more same sex marriages, according to many surveys, of course I cannot provide them for you, children are much better off. I just don't understand how passing an amendment to the constitution would make a bit of difference. I realize now that that it is quite similar to slavery. Discrimination runs the politics and lives of many people in this country. Put your differences aside, imagine me saying that, and get along. The gays are not going to take over America. If anything, we'll make it better. So screw you, Bush. Get the hell out of the White House.

nature v. nuture, not really

..and another thing. I came home from work tonight and heard a strange noise in the guest bedroom. Whad-ya know, look what happend to find its way into the house. I couldn't believe how relaxed it was. This made my day.
if you can't take the heat get off my street...

Yep, NYC here we come. After all it is a 3 day holiday weekend. Unfortunately, boy has to work tomorrow so we won't be able to leave until late afternoon. Sunday morning we will wake to an amazing brunch at Boxer's in the West Village. Mimosas, mojitos and who know what the hell else with dot the table. Goody goody.

Promises, promises
I know I promised that I would post more often. To be honest, I think about the blog everyday, I just have no idea what to write when i'm sitting at computer. I sit there with a blank stare and feel like an idiot. I'm really trying.4.19.2006
enjoying myself..
I am sitting outside of my house on the deck, Tanguerey and tonic in hand. The weather is absolutely gorgeous, my friends are sitting in the hot tub, we are all talking, it is just perfect. There are no mosquitos, the fountain is going and the candles and lights are all on. I can't ask for anything better. Well, Karl could be here. He went to work the auto show in NYC. I'm sure I will have more than my share of pictures to post of stuff that he thought was incredible. This week at work has been really quiet. It is actually really nice. My supervisor is out for the week for a funeral in Florida. Unfortunately, unexpected, my heart goes out to her. I have been doing my own thing, getting a shit load of work done - Madonna's new CD has been in heavy rotation. I can describe what a difference it makes to be able to listen to my own music and do everything i'm supposed to do without someone perched over my shoulder.
On a totally random note, I have been thinking lately how lucky I am to have what I have. When I was driving home last night there were people in the middle of the road, waving their arms. I wasn't sure what was going on and frankly I was pissed because I thought it was people fucking around. It turns out they were totally legit. There was a deer that had been hit and it was just in the middle of the road, struggling to get up on its feet and sprint off into the woods. I saw it and it just hit me. I wasn't sure what to think, other than this poor creature was helpless in the road. I was thinking to myself as I drove by, if I could have had the mindset that the deer did, what would I be thinking? I just couldn't imagine.

Yep, the idea behind Subaru. Today, we were lucky enough to get an STI for the day. A 300 horsepower turbo-charged monster. The brother of our Sales Manager at Subaru has one and he let us use it. Crazy, but true. The car is sick as hell.

he hasn't learned much
Yeah, my father, who was in jail for 3 months, has yet to learn that he is a lost cause. It's harsh to say but I think it is the truth. I had lunch with him last week. It was the first time I saw him in almost 4 months. I brought up things like child support owed to my mother, me being gay, my sister having a baby - just to name a few. It was like trying to get a dog to drive a car, it's just not possible. He said that it wasn't anyone's fault that he started drinking again. Blah. So this weekend I am supposed to meet with him and my sister for breakfast in the city. What can I do, I just say yes so I don't have to deal with his bullshit. I'm just at odds, not sure what to do.Karl's mother and step-father are coming up to visit on Easter weekend. Yuck. I hate Easter. We have a lot of cleaning and primping to do. I have been talking to my parents about borrowing theiri Dyson for a couple of days just to see what that puppy can do. Everyone always rants and raves about the damn thing, so I figured I would give it a try. We have berber carpets in our house and as you probably know, they suck up dirt like a sponge. I have to go to Home Depot to rent a steam cleaner. I am going on a ravenous cleaning spree this weekend.
Saturday, our friends Kim, Sandy and Danielle are coming over for dinner. We have known Kim for a couple of years now, she is married to the Lot Manager at work. Summer deck parties led us to meet Sandy and Danielle, who live next door to Kim. They are great and we seem to get along well. Danielle recently moved to New York City to take a stab at a new life in the big city. I am not really that big into entertaining people - I get nervous and concerned people are not having a good time. So hopefully grilled food an alcohol will entertain this group. It always seems to work.
